Apocalypse

Rise of the Alpha

En Sabah Nur was one of the very firstborn mutants, hailing from ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. Born and raised by the Sandstormers, a group of ruthless yet noble nomadic warriors, Nur eventually had fend for himself when his group was eradicated by the regime of the mysterious and influential Pharaoh Rama-Tut. Not long since he started training how to use his earliest powers, Nur was infused with technorganic Celestial technology from the ruins of abandoned Gardener facilities beneath the dunes of Cairo, embracing the otherworldly title of Apocalypse, fueled by the ideology of ensuring evolution to take its natural course in the name of the strongest mutates, mutant or not. Nur's physique was enhanced becoming the result of a mix of his organic mutant biology and Celestial technology, amplifying his mutations and other powers to nigh-cosmic levels.

Over the centuries since he successfully defeated Tut and overthrew his rule, Nur was worshipped as a god by various cultures in early civilization. He would enforce his rule using his strike force known as the Horsemen of Apocalypse, originally composed of War, Famine, Pestilence and Death. He would periodically enter lengthy periods of regenerative rest to prolong his lifespan, and seek out powerful the most mutants he could find as host bodies. During his slumber, his secret cult of loyal followers and surviving descendants known as Clan Akkaba who possessed a portion of his powers through their mutant genes would watch over his body and guide the world using his philosophy and under the mantle of Apocalypse, fighting heroes and villains alike from different points in time as civilization developed.

The boom of the mutant population in modern age awoke him from his slumber around the summer of 1999. He actively tried to provoke a war between humans and mutants so that they can inherit the Earth under his guidance. He awoke at various points to influence history and attempt to recruit useful people to his cause such as Exodus and Mr. Sinister, only for these alliance to bring him into conflict with the X-Men, who Apocalypse would eventually deem who were among the worthy opponents who have earned the right to live in his new world.

The Great Trials Commence

After resurfacing in the twenty-first century countless of times, Apocalypse enlisted his greatest standing followers such as Exodus and Mister Sinister to bring about his endgame, the Great Trials, around late 2035. Apocalypse had swayed and gathered enough enhanced followers which included Sinister, who once more who proved his loyalty and service to Apocalypse out of desperation to protect Nate Grey — the long lost son of Jean Grey and Scott Summers whom Sinister had secretly augmented and raised as his own — from the X-Men due to the omega-level power which he potentially inherits, they finally coerced and empowered Nate into his growing alliance as a part of the Great Trials, Apocalypse's endgame to reshape all of life on Earth into his image, calling it Omega World, as Apocalypse would become its self-proclaimed Alpha.

Apocalypse and his armada fought against the Nimrod Sentinels and reached into the heart and mind of its master, Master Mold, to which Apocalypse would brawl and brutally dismember to death due to his disdain at the Sentinels for being the antithesis of his vision, the epitome of the old civilization's technology that could've been the exterminators of organic life itself if it weren't for Apocalypse intervening. The conquest of Apocalypse in the form of his Great Trials have eventually brought the attention of Selene Gallio, who Apocalypse would discover to be not only the oldest living mutant, but also one of the members of a mutant subspecies which Apocalypse was revealed to have also belonged to: Externals. Despite the two immortal mutants engaging in a rivalry in the first few years since their meeting, Apocalypse was able to "court" and recruit Selene and her followers to join his Clan Akkaba.

When the surviving X-Men still declined to join him when the trials continued, they fought against Apocalypse and Selene for almost a decade alongside other superheroes from the previous generation to the next, enough time for the Alpha to secretly absorb enough the powers of other mutants for his own to face and kill most the X-Men in order to send a message to their adversaries, while also trying to offer them a new way of living under Apocalypse's philosophy of "survival of the fittest." Reveling in the miseries of those who failed to stop them, Apocalypse and Selene found themselves irresistibly lusting for each other before eventually falling in love after finding the connection of them being two of the last Externals on Earth. Strengthening their armada, Apocalypse's genius subordinates such as Mister Sinister were compelled to collect and preserve the samples of other fallen enhanced individuals whom they slayed in the next thousands of years.

However, the Great Trials were also a challenge for Apocalypse and his followers just as it was tormenting for his enemies who remained fearless and persistent in stopping his attacks. In 2040, his original body was completely obliterated by the Inhuman Quake of the heroic resistance, which inadvertently caused the great cracking of Earth. Fortunately for Nur, he barely survived the ordeal when he used his telepathy to transfer his mind into the first vigorous and mutated clone body produced by Sinister when he rejoined the former's side around the time. Apocalypse retaliated at Quake and her closest teammates stronger than ever, Sinister had taken a sample of their DNA from their corpses, as per his master's command to preserve the bloodline of both their strongest fallen allies and adversaries alike in the distant future, with their "children" living in the paradise which Apocalypse had promised to bring about with Omega World.

While most of the X-Men and their fellow heroes in the modern age were slain, Jean Grey managed to bring back their prodigal son into his normal self, giving him her and the X-Men's memories before being taken over by the Phoenix and leaving Earth. With no one as powerful and courageous left to face Apocalypse beside the guilt-ridden Nate Grey and the remaining heroes in hiding, entire civilizations and races were wiped out in its wake throughout the next two millennia of conquest and slaughter, with some of the only species of survivors aside from Mutants — the Atlanteans, the Inhumans, the Lesser Nimrods, the Wakandans, the Mystics, and the Moloids — lived under his rule in the now created Omega World within the continent of what used to be most of humanity's old Americas.

Apocalypse officially established of Omega World and became its almighty ruler along with his great Empress Selene around the beginning of the 32nd century, terraforming most of the continent as his domain by manipulating the sentient living tied islands of Krakoa and Arakko into his will, molding America and nearby landmasses into an undisturbed but wide and constantly-expanding paradise for his followers and their descendants for millennia to come, with some families believing it was Apocalypse's salvation that preserved their line. Apocalypse's Horsemen, greatest of warriors, and mightiest of children and descendance — collectively called the Champions of Omega World — started to function as his living enforcers or "antibodies," cleansing the Omega World of anything that could do him or his closest allies harm. Around his prime, Apocalypse and the strongest allies whom he shared his power with easily able to take the abilities of other opposing Mutants at sight and disable them permanently with ease.

The Tragedies of Godhood

Detecting his open presence when he was serenely ruling Omega World, Apocalypse and Selene were recruited by the traveling Celestial Gardeners to become Apocalypse once more as they unveiled to them the truth of the Externals, their heralds who were tasked with the mission of planting life on new worlds by using Life Seeds and growing new servants to shepherd their evolution by using Death Seeds. Apocalypse and the Empress left Earth as the two joined fellow Externals from different planets and empires, as well as the techno-organic Eternals, in serving these last powerful faction of the Celestials, until he grew weary and realized how weak he appeared to be compared to the cosmic gods who granted him powers to begin with. The last straw for Nur was when the Celestials tasked him with using Earth as the birthing place of their strongest Celestial yet.

When Selene started to doubt the grace of their godhood since she believed their potentials for greater were being held back by the Celestials, Apocalypse had to give himself a challenge to prove that he and Selene were the superior lifeforms over the Gardeners who even sought to claim Earth as their domain to govern and no one else's, the two Externals of Earth retaliated against their masters as he helped Selene track down the Phoenix Force across the depths of space and made a deal with the entity after finding their a middle ground with the prospect that the Celestials have grown with power that they would cause absolute chaos to the universe rather than the order which they intended with their unceasing crusade to plant cosmic seeds.

When the Phoenix agreed to their terms and it eventually battled the Gardeners by bestowing the two with its godly powers, Apocalypse attempted to use it as a ruse on both powerful entities, only to face the irreversible repercussion that the Phoenix had taken completely over his beloved Selene when she was jovially enthralled to be in her goddess state, even more powerful than the Celestials when she accepted to be its host. Regrettably, her attainment as a goddess would prove to be Selene's downfall. While she obliterated most of the Gardeners and killed or depowered most of the Eternals and even Externals, the Phoenix inevitably burned and absorbed the Empress External in a similar way she did Jean Grey hundreds of thousands of years ago. The Phoenix had claimed Grey was a far superior and more balanced host compared to Selene, whose greed of attaining godhood have made their bond incompatible, but has stated that both mutants have nevertheless fulfilled their purpose.

The battle was galactically catastrophic, long enough for Apocalypse to be able to harness the cosmic energies of his fallen masters to weaken the Phoenix into a submissive state until it was "tamed," believing that Selene's spirit absorbed by the entity had somehow eased its fiery essence. A grieving but resolute Apocalypse returned to Earth in no time in order to tell their children and grandchildren about Selene's sacrifice and have his people honor her legacy, only to be inflamed to learn how fractured his own civilization has turned out in his absence with Omega World's paradise-like perception starting to crumble from the eyes of those who either miraculously fled Omega or the people who were hiding and surviving outside it, most notably the remaining habitable areas of the Savage Land and the underwater civilization of Lemuria.

After fighting for hundreds of years as a messianic figure for mutantkind on Earth, Nate Grey would meet his demise at the hands of the all-powerful Apocalypse, although he sacrificed his life as he used a psychic link to Apocalypse order to separate Earth from the rest of civilization across the universe, and any attempt to leave the planet would trigger the destruction of Omega World. Secretly, a dying Grey had successfully ensured that his closest friend and comrade Mother Askani, revealed to be his niece, and the rest of Askani could retrieve a significant invention of Nathaniel Richards, who had since reluctantly and indefinitely exiled himself into the Microverse to survive after battling Apocalypse and his Champions.

Fall of the Omega

By the late 37th century, Apocalypse regained his power and ruled most of planet Earth when he slowly continued the expanse of Omega World, openly killing anyone who was opposed to his regime which split the American continent based on his newly established territories. Apocalypse returned as the Alpha of Omega World, turning his body as the mobile 'heart' of the whole biosphere due to the cosmic energy within him to keep the World running even as he moves outside of it, while he also utilized the eternal flames of the restrained Phoenix into destroying the nascent Celestial the Gardeners have implanted on Earth. In turn, his Horsemen started to function as his active antibodies, cleansing Omega World of anything that could do him harm as they slowly tried to expand their master's domain by facing off against the surviving allies of the X-Men led by restored and revered Nate Grey, a group that would eventually be named the Clan Askani.

The invention of Richards retrieved by Clan Askani was a time-sliding device which Richards had repurposed and hid in order to avoid his fate as Kang the Conqueror, and at the hands of the Clan, Mother Askani strengthened their originally fabricated prophecy of the Askani'son in order to reignite the hope and the purpose of the clan, and the surviving groups of people who still looked up to them in times of darkness that they would free the world from Apocalypse's oppressive rule. Over the following several years, Nur witnessed how believers of Clan Askani have deified the ancient X-Men: "the Xavier" became a father figure, the Bright Lady a mother goddess, and the prophesied "Dayspring" or "Askani'son," their messiah. This was the moment Mother Askani has found her answer to justify the prophecy and fulfill her late uncle's promise by rescuing the infant from the Legacy Virus and raising him into their timeline, training the present Nate to become the one who will slay Apocalypse and bring an end to the tyranny of Omega.

About 3000 years in the past, a younger Mister Sinister had infected the infant Nathan Summers with a Techno-Organic Virus during the events of Ultimate War. Utilizing and miniaturizing Richards' device, a faction of Clan Askani traveled to the year of 2014, a few months before Ultimate War, where they kept an eye over the first child of Jean Grey and Scott Summers with Mother Askani's psionic bond. When Nathan was presumed dead in the aftermath of Ultimate War, Mother Askani took the infant Nathan from Sinister's lab in Genosha and went forward to her time in order to cure the virus. Upon baby's arrival, Mother Askani cloned him which also required the last samples of the late Nate Grey, his future counterpart, in an attempt to save his life. Learning of the infant Askani'son's arrival, Apocalypse ordered his Champions in Clan Akkaba to massacre the Askani while Apocalypse himself seized the clone infant, believing him to be Nathan.

Not knowing this second child to be a clone, Apocalypse ceased his hunt for the real Nathan and raised the child, naming him Stryfe, after a fallen might enemy who gained Apocalypse's respect in the past, and training him intensely under his tutelage, to become a warrior and a terrorist to those who dared to defy the peace and existence of Omega World, and potentially become Nur's successor as the next Alpha. Apocalypse encouraged Stryfe's arrogance and cruelty as he grew into adolescence and him watched over by Apocalypse's aide, Majestor Ch'vayre. When the threatening taunts of Lord Sinister had daunted him into desperation, however, Apocalypse went as far as planning to transfer his mind into Stryfe when he knew that his prodigy was too reckless to defeat Sinister nor any of his children and descendants were way weaker to do the same. Being the second father to Stryfe, Ch'vayre openly opposed with the pretext that Apocalypse new plans for Stryfe went against his own "survival of the fittest" philosophy. Ch'vayre was restrained by Nur, believing that Ch'vayre's nurture had caused Stryfe's "emotional imbalance."

After the Goblin Queen had harnessed the Phoenix Force by driving it into a state of fear and madness known as the Goblin Force, she and her subterranean infiltrators have revealed their collaboration with Lord Sinister. They easily infiltrated Apocalypse's citadel and chaotically distracted the Champions of Omega from intervening the destruction of his temple. The disillusioned Ch'vayre broke free and joined the betrayal against Apocalypse the moment he was mortally wounded by the combined power of Goblin and Sinister.

Ch'vayre put Nur out of his misery and giving away Omega World to the hands of Lord Sinister, believing that the glory of the ecosystem would be finally restored once Sinister had gained control over Omega World. However, instead of preserving the structure of Apocalypse's now collapsing obra maestra, Lord Sinister amusingly chose to kill Krakoa, one of the two sentient islands keeping intact Nur's domain intact, exposing the borders of Omega for the rest of the outside world — including Cable and Clan Askani — to oust and battle the last Champions of Omega and enlighten its residents of the existence that Earth has more than their "paradise" had to offer, with Sinister making himself appear to be a savior to hundreds of thousands of innocent witnesses from the outside and gaining a high ruler-like status like his former master.
