Early Years
Edwin Jarvis (born 1922, died 2018) was a smart and skilled man who served as an aide to a general in the British Forces during World War II who ended up befriending and becoming a trusted ally of American Howard Stark, who was a founding member of the United States Army's Strategic Scientific Reserve (S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future). Jarvis later helped Stark's associate Peggy Carter in her mission of clearing Stark's name when the Soviet-based espionage agency known as Leviathan attempted to convince the SSR that Stark was guilty of treason. Jarvis ended up becoming adventurous in the process as he volunteered to assist Agent Carter once again when deranged scientist Agnes Cully threatened the world from being consumed with Darkforce. However, when his beloved wife Ana was almost killed in the confrontation against the Leviathan, Jarvis was forced to reevaluate his own future. In his later adventures, Jarvis later assisted Agent Carter in helping the foundation of the S.H.I.E.L.D.'s European Union counterpart, the European Defense Initiative (E.D.I.), which were founded by his old acquaintances in the British Armed Forces: Daniel Merlyn and Sir James Braddock, thus serving as a consultant and independent agent for the agency for years.
Later Years
It wasn't long after Jarvis agreed to join Stark Industries and more personally, he even become the butler of the Stark Family once Howard Stark had married Maria Stark and brought upon their young son Tony. However, Jarvis also knew about Howard's secret: the fact that he had another son with someone else named Arno, which his master told him not to tell Tony until he has fully grown up. Following Howard's request, Jarvis kept watch over his older, illegitimate son. Jarvis would later meet and train a grown up Arno as the latter wound up becoming an agent of the E.D.I. bearing a civilian persona known as Gregory Gillen. The two would develop a mentor-type relationship, the same way Jarvis and Tony had bonded in Jarvis' stay as an independent intelligence agent.
Over the years, he served as a support figure during the childhood of Tony until Jarvis would retire back to his home town and settle down with his wife once he saw that Tony was old enough to take over Stark Industries, resulting in the young Stark into paying tribute to his elder butler by naming his artificial intelligence system J.A.R.V.I.S. after him, flattering his old father-figure upon hearing it.
Eventually his wife Ana passed away from an aging-associated disease by the late 2000s, in which an older Jarvis held a funeral for her and buried in an cemetery in England, wherein it was attended by Tony Stark, whom Jarvis had frequently kept in touch with from time to time, as if they were father and son. Alone in his residence, Tony offered Jarvis a place in the United States but Jarvis politely declined and decided to move on with his life the way he wanted to spend it, something that was reminded to him by his wife before her timely passing.
The Armor Wars
Since living his elder life on his own, Jarvis was suddenly contacted once again by the E.D.I. in years who brought a warning that Stark Industries was being infiltrated not long after his ward has come out to the public as the armored hero Iron Man. Worrying for Stark's safety. Iron Man's armor technology was revealed to have been sold to his greatest rogues by a mysterious seller. Upon learning this, Iron Man begins a clandestine crusade to destroy all traces of his tech and find and apprehend those individuals or groups who were using it, even if it means facing off against his friends, the US Government or foreign operatives. Upon learning that Tony was facing a great peril he couldn't face alone, an old but still wise and stalwart Jarvis sided with Iron Man's temporary team begins a covert quest to investigate and destroy all traces of his rogue tech and find and apprehend those individuals or groups who were using it, even if it means facing off against his opposing friends, the US Government or foreign operatives until they found out it to be future Hydra agent and supplier, Spymaster.
After leaving the Iron Man's team, Jarvis initially decided to tell the truth about his long lost brother Arno, only for his responsibilities at the E.D.I. kept him at bay in telling Tony the truth. When his old friend, E.D.I. director Daniel Merlyn, was killed in action during Ultimate War, Jarvis became militant in serving the E.D.I. as more than a consultant, and volunteered to become a special agent in helping the agency recover in the global conflict's aftermath against the Movement Alliance. Effectively coming out of retirement, Jarvis worked with Braddock's children: the new Captain Britain and Psylocke, along with the resilient Lionheart, whom Jarvis had seen the potential in her in becoming the next director of the E.D.I. besides the Braddocks.
Peaceful Passing
Weeks after the events of Norman Osborn's Dark Reign had ended in the authoritative maniac's defeat at the hands of the heroic alliance, Tony Stark was contacted by Gregory Gillen (Arno Stark) that Jarvis peacefully died in his sleep within his house, learning that he had a sleep apnea induced heart attack. He was buried next to his wife, Ana and his funeral were attended by his loved ones and his colleagues in the E.D.I., who greatly admired and respected his valor and persistence in keeping the agency fortified and vitalized in its times of vulnerability. The funeral was held by both Tony and Arno, whom the former has yet to know their true relationship as half-brothers, not until a week later on when Tony discovered Jarvis' letters and documents which he wrote exclusively for him and kept for a while, confidently knowing his former ward would eventually find them so he could learn the truth he has been wanting to tell him before.

Trivia
- Despite realizing that his overexertion in work and lack of proper sleep would eventually worsen his heart condition, Jarvis never stopped serving the E.D.I. after his wife's death, something that worried his loved ones that they often monitored his health and condition.
- As Tony and Arno had read his letters of farewell and documents, Jarvis' tone of writing suggested that didn't regret working with them even as a retiree since what he did in the Armor Wars was no different in his past adventures with their father and Agent Carter.
- Due to his old age, Jarvis humorously considered serving as the Avengers' butler if he wasn't so passionate about working with the E.D.I. for years.
- Aside from J.A.R.V.I.S., the only Avengers he had met in person while visiting the Avengers Tower were War Machine (though the two have already met before), Black Widow, Spider-Man, and Captain America.
