History
Eddie Brock grew up friends with Peter Parker, as their fathers were partners together at Oscorp. Eddie was a few years older and always protected Peter from bullies.
He later went on to become a journalist working for the Daily Bugle, and dedicated most of his career to slandering the vigilante, Spider-Man, not knowing that he was actually Peter Parker. He later had his career disgraced after faking interviews with a serial killer when his job was on the line, and he ended up blaming Spider-Man for exposing him, and Peter Parker for convincing their boss at the Bugle J. Jonah Jameson to fire him.
Enraged, he went to a church to pray for a solution, and eventually resigned to committing suicide. His boundless rage and angst attracting the attention of the Venom Symbiote, which had just been discarded by Spider-Man. Bonding over their hatred for Spider-Man. They then spent the next several years as Venom terrorizing Spider-Man, becoming one of his fiercest enemies.
Eventually, Venom became the target of Kraven the Hunter. During a battle between the two of them that Spider-Man, of course, inserted himself into. Kraven was able to manipulate Venom's weakness to fire and forcibly separated the Symbiote from Eddie. He then impaled Brock through the chest with a spear and proceeded to bond with the Symbiote himself.
