Earth-2223, or the Renaissance Universe, was launched in an attempt to simplify the decades of Marvel lore and back reading needed for new readers to start reading Marvel. In this sense, it is a spiritual successor to the Ultimate Universe. The timeline begins from 2020 and takes place in near-real time, and nearly all character death will be permanent. Most characters remain the same from Earth-616, although certain characters have been re-interpreted to fit the modern setting.
