Christine "Chris" Barton was a circus artist performing entertainment using her master archery skills under the stage name Hawkeye. When she found out the Circus were criminals, she ran away. Seeing Iron Maiden in action, she was inspired to use her talents to fight crime as a costumed superhero, using her stage name as a codename. She was approached by Nicole Fury who saw something in her, and thus became a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Over her career she has worked closely with Black Spider.
