History[]

Early Life[]

Carol Danvers was born to Joe Danvers, Sr., a U.S. Navy officer and construction worker and Mari-Ell, a deserting Kree Army captain, in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mother chose the name Carol for her as it was similar to the Kree name "Car-Ell", which meant "Champion" in her native language, as well as after her father's Aunt Carol. As a child, Carol would be unaware of her mother's Kree origins and her father, who was fully aware, was worried at times about the Kree finding them. She grew up with her two older brothers, Steve and Joe, Jr., who were from her father's first marriage. Later in her childhood, her family relocated north to Beverly. As a child, Carol was fascinated by flying and dreamed of being either a pilot or an astronaut and one of her childhood idols was Amelia Earhart. She would spend Saturday afternoons putting together model planes. Along with her family, she supported the Boston Red Sox and often played baseball with boys. At the age of ten, she visited the space station at Cape Canaveral with her family to watch a rocket launch.

The Coming of Captain Marvel![]

During her teenage years, her father would support her older brothers' plans for college more than her own, as he believed that he could only send two, at most, to college. Carol, who had worked a part-time job for two years, offered to use her earnings to help pay for tuition herself and hoped that her father would help, as well, but did not. Realizing that by joining the military, she could both achieve her dream of being a pilot and pay for college, so on the day after her eighteenth birthday, Carol left her family without notifying them and joined the Air Force. Steve would also join the military (the U.S. Navy, like his father), but ended up being killed in action. She was stationed in Edwards Air Force Base where she met Maria Rambeau, Michael Rossi, and their commanding officer Colonel Hahn. Maria would eventually become her best friend while she would develop feelings for Rossi. The first time Carol was finally allowed to fly a plane, she was given a Stark Industries prototype by Colonel Hahn, who instructed her to test the plane's experimental holographic camera and stealth while flying. She eventually learned of the retired Captain Helen "Pancho" Cobb of Banshee Squadron who had fifteen speed records before being discharged, so the blonde pilot planned to either match or surpass the retired pilot's feats. Carol, Michael, and Maria would also frequent Pancho's Bar, from which Helen Cobb took her nickname from. Upon finally meeting Pancho at the bar, she learned of the retired pilot's involvement with Mercury 13 and that she tested at the same time as John Glenn.

When Carol reached the rank of Captain, Carol and Maria went to Pancho's Bar to celebrate by drinking, playing pool, and doing karaoke.

Eventually, Carol would be appointed as the head of security at Cape Canaveral and at the time, a downed Kree Sentry was taken into custody of the United States government and incarcerated at the base. Military scientist "Dr. Walter Lawson" had arrived to examine the sentry, but, suddenly, it had reactivated and went on a rampage. Moments after, Dr. Lawson had disappeared and an individual named Captain Mar-Vell had arrived on the scene to fight the sentry.

Marvel vs DC[]

Two entities known as the Brothers, one representing the Marvel Universe and the other representing the DC Universe, had remembered each other's existences, causing the two universes to merge. During the Marvel vs DC event, while other Marvel heroes were fighting against DC heroes, Carol encountered DC's Supergirl, and found that she had many similarities with her.

Amalgam[]

The Brothers had held a contest in which they would take fighters from both of their universes and have them fight each other, with the losing universe being destroyed. In order to prevent this, the Living Tribunal and DC's Spectre joined forces to create the Amalgam Universe, combining characters, events, and aspects from both universes. During the events of Amalgam, Carol was combined with DC's Huntress to become Carol Danvers, the Huntress, who was an ally of the Dark Claw (a combination of Wolverine and DC's Batman).
