History

Time Runs Out

The Cabal was formed by Namor after a falling out with the Illuminati due to him morbidly proving his willingness to kill and sacrifice worlds after unhesitatingly destroying another Earth in order to their home universe, which was unfortunately a decision that was against the rest of the Illuminati's expected outcome and method of solving the problem. When a new incursion occurred immediately after said event, the rest of the Illuminati were ready to let both universes be destroyed, rather than be forced to destroy an Earth. Namor and the mysterious being known as the Black Swan contacted Maximus of the Inhuman Royal Family and told them about the incursions, asking for their help as the three of them traveled across the dying multiverse to search for the smartest and the boldest beings who are willing to join their cause. Banding together to fight one main cause in the form of nine members (initially ten, but Annihilus was suddenly slain by an infuriated Thanos), they were tasked to destroy the other Earth they've first encountered hovering towards Earth, thus forming the Cabal.

The Cabal continued to protect the prime universe, along with their own respective universes, by destroying colliding Earths, but Namor grew weary and disgusted with the Cabal's habit of engaging in wholesale slaughter of the colliding Earth's population, as opposed to simply planting the explosive and leaving the targeted world. Eight months after the formation of the Cabal, the Cabal had found some degree of legitimacy on Earth. The world stood by and allowed the Cabal to raze Wakanda, and claim the ruins as their base of operations. The Cabal continued to protect the universe by destroying several countless colliding Earths and had even gone to the point where they savagely battled some of the most powerful cosmic beings and entities themselves across every reality they've come across, such as the Celestials, Builders, and even a few separate reality versions of the cosmic embodiment (including Entropy, Infinity, and Eternity among others), something that only beings the likes of the Beyonders, who are the causers of the incursions themselves, are capable of achieving such lethal task.

However, Namor eventually clashed with Thanos himself over leadership of the Cabal, but was no match for the Mad Titan. Even at the hands of Thanos, Namor was still sadistically spared by the Mad Titan, mocking that Namor's allies would certainly "kill" him since he coldly betrayed his Earthly allies for some cosmic criminals and despots he barely knew to begin with. The Cabal set about finding a way to survive the final incursion, which was analytically predicted by the Cabal's smartest minds to take place between five incursions occurring at the same time, and the end of the multiverse. After the Cabal's geniuses have worked together, they began working on a life raft based on both Earth-61615 and Earth-61616's blueprints that they secretly took a copy of, which would allow them to survive the unnatural, accelerated end of the multiverse at the hands of the race of cosmic entities which were the Beyonders.

Secret Wars

The life raft was completed just in time, and the Cabal survived the final incursions, venturing into the blank slate of the abyss as it is suddenly being rebuilt by the Beyonder Dominion under the leadership and guidance of the all-powerful Great Mother, as they create the patchwork planet called Battleworld. The Cabal were inadvertently freed from their raft and awoken years after the final incursions, setting foot on Battleworld, wherein they reluctantly but necessarily allied themselves with the surviving heroes, mostly from Earth-61615 and Earth-61616, to destroy the Beyonders' Dominion and ultimately, find a way to restore the multiverse to its natural state and order. During the final, climactic battle against the Beyonders, most of the Cabal were killed, mostly by the Great Mother. Thankfully, after the Beyonder was able to restore the universe with help and further assistance from his newfound allies, most of them has since resurfaced within either their respective home universes, or found themselves somewhere within the prime, modern reality, Earth-61615.

Notes

This version of the Cabal is heavily based on the team of the same name created by Jonathan Hickman and Kev Walker, which first appeared during 23rd issue of the New Avengers run from 2013-2015 until the crossover event Secret Wars in 2015.

Trivia

During their reluctant alliance with other heroic and non-heroic parties alike on Battleworld against the Beyonders, Ultron was the very situational ally the Cabal had mostly despised teaming up with, especially since The Maker came from an Earth where the unhinged A.I. had slayed billions of life and taken over the world for a decade.
Before the final incursions, the Cabal has estimated to have destroyed over 161,000 Earths and 200,130 other harmful form of celestial bodies in the span of eight months during their bloody quest to save the multiverse from the Beyonders' grand scheme.
