I may or may not be Peter Parker, but I'm definitely Spider-Man, and that's enough for me.
- —Spider-Man
History
Ben Reilly seemingly had a similar history as his Earth-616 counterpart. He was a clone of Peter Parker, the superhero known as Spider-Man. After meeting his genetic template, he realized the truth of his origin and decided to go into exile. Five years later; however, Ben felt the pull to return home and become his own hero, the Scarlet Spider.
Peter initially distrusted Ben, but quickly came to view him as a brother and Ben became integrated into the lives of Peter and his wife. In a plot orchestrated by the Green Goblin, Peter was tricked into believing Ben was the original Peter Parker. The shock caused Peter to develop a psychological block, resulting in his powers becoming unreliable. He decided to pass on the mantle of Spider-Man to Ben, with Ben becoming the Sensational Spider-Man.
Sensational Spider-Man was among those teleported to Reality: MS-0815 through a rift and recruited by War Machine into the Avengers Alliance to oppose the reality's tyrannical ruler: God Emperor Doom. On Battleisland, Ben was ecstatic to find that Peter would not only regain control of his powers, but also that Peter and MJ would have a son named after him. He could tell something bad had happened to his future self, but decided not to investigate. Ben later joined Peter's Web-Warriors in an effort to strengthen the reality's connection to the Web of Life and Destiny.
