Formerly a US soldier, Ben took his nephew after the death of his parents and later raised him solely after losing May to a burglar. At first, he was oblivious that Peter was Spider-Man until he graduated high school where he fought one of his enemies who attacked his graduation ceremony, revealing his identity, much to his shock but gained his support. However, he himself was later bitten by one of the radioactive spiders, giving him the same powers as his nephew, resulting him in becoming Spider-Ben.
