Bakuto was a K'un-Lunan who, alongside Gao, Sowande, Nobu and Murakami, was kicked out of the city because of their attempts to achieve immortality. Together they became the Five Fingers of the Hand and there are records of them since the 17th Century, as they were revived any time they died.

Bakuto met Colleen Wing when she was a young girl and became her Sensei, as a bond was formed between them. They dreamed of opening a Compound where they would train people in order to give them purpose.
