History

Oh, you wound me Batsy, don't you remember me? You're old friend Jack! Or was it Arthur, what did we name you again?
The Symbiote Who Laughs (Arthur Kasady)

Arthur Kasady was a serial killer who was put in Arkamcroft and insane asylum for dangerous criminals, at one point in time he had a cellmate named Eddie Brock a former wrestler put in prison for committing crimes using the alias Venomous Bane. One day Eddie's symbiote came and broke him out and left a piece of itself behind. The piece it left bonded to Arthur and he took up the alias The Symbiote Who Laughs and went to go on a mindless rampage killing random people for unknown reasons with his signature being giving them an unnatural disturbing smile. During his rampage he eventually met Spider-Bat (Wayne Parker) and after killing an enemy of his Kite-Shock (Herman Brown) for unknown reasons he introduced himself.

At first Arthur could not remember his own name either because of how insane he is or due to the symbiote's possession of him either way Spider-Bat having helped the police capture him before recognized him. Kasady then revealed his origin story to Spider-Bat, afterwards Spider-Bat tried to kill Kasady's symbiote which due to the symbiote having some memories from its predecessor it knew this would happen and so destroyed the sound device. After which the 2 fought and Spider-Bat tackled Kasady off the roof, however Kasady knew this would happen and so hugged Spider-Bat hoping to squash him like a pancake when they reached the ground. Fortunately Venomous Bane (Eddie Brock) came in and saved Spider-Bat much to Kasady's dismay.

Upon seeing Brock, Kasady was confused and asked why he was here and why he was saving Spider-Bat. Brock revealed that he has trained himself and made sure to keep the symbiote under control gesturing to the tube pack on his back and offered Kasady the same treatment before insulting him. Kasady angered by his insult stated that Brock was just being a "party pooper" and should really let his symbiote take full control of him so they could enjoy the full force of the symbiote. After which Kasady battled both Brock and Spider-Bat, however Kasady was clearly more superior in power unfortunately for Kasady Brock also had a sound device which he used. In doing so he seemingly killed both Kasady's and his own symbiote along with sacrificing himself the in the process.

Kasady was horrified by the seeming death of his symbiote and searched endlessly for it only to be knocked unconscious by Spider-Bat. Kasady would be taken back to Arkamcroft but somehow got news that his symbiote was still alive and being held in a different cell. Soon after Kasady got a psychiatrist in the form of Doctor Harleen Quill, Kasady while talking with her learned that she was searching for her father and so offered to help her find him if she got his symbiote back. Harley agreed and helped him escape leading to the 2 falling in love and becoming a couple, however as they were about to find Harley's father they had a falling out and Harley was captured by Arkamcroft this time. Sometime later, Kasady now with his symbiote once again learned that Spider-Bat had gained a sidekick in the form of Spider-Bat (Jason Morales), wanting to make Spider-Bat know that he was the only one who could be in his life he killed Jason brutally leading to Spider-Bat putting him in Arkamcroft again.

Sometime later, Kasady would be approached by his cellmate Doctor Ivy (Pamela Octavius) who offered him a chance to finally end Spider-Bat, Kasady agreed on one condition that being to have some "fun" with Spider-Bat before killing him. After coming to this agreement, Kasady joined Pamela's team known as The Six, Kasady was one of the team members who ambush Wayne after Pamela lured him in. During the battle as Spider-Bat was seemingly being overwhelmed they were suddenly attacked by Jason Morales now going by the name Red Arachnid, Kasady was annoyed by the interruption and was confused on how Jason was still alive after having murdered him. Jason simply stated that he "got better" before throwing a bomb that exploded into radiant light at all of The Six, during the battle Spider-Bat opened a canister which contained a symbiote in it.

Kasady planned on having his symbiote absorb the one within the canister but Jason wouldn't allow it and so grabbed onto the canister. In doing so Jason was possessed by the symbiote and so began to become enhanced by it, Kasady upon seeing how strong Jason now was decided he didn't need Spider-Bat and so attempted to murder him. However that's when Spider-Bat had Riddle Cat (Felicia Nygma) reveal her true allegiances and she released his sound device which killed both Kasady and Jason's symbiotes. While Spider-Bat revealed to Pamela how and why her plan failed Jason shot and killed Kasady, Kasady however even in death still had a sickening smile across his face.

Trivia

  • When Arthur Kasady asks himself if his name is "Arthur" or "Jack" it is a reference to how the Joker keeps switching real names. Like in a Batman movie his name was at a point "Jack Napier" but in the recent Joker movie his name is now "Arthur Fleck"
    • It is also a reference to how Joker's name is such a mystery that Joker himself no longer knows it
