Powers: Unparalleled Adaptation: Darwin has the ability to adapt new physical traits and superhuman abilities as he requires them to survive. These traits are usually temporary, except in cases where he has evolved the same trait several times, then his body may permanently metabolize the powers or the ability to manifest them independently of the external stimuli which triggered them initially. The most common example is when his head is submerged underwater, in which case Darwin grows gills and is able to breathe normally. His ability seems to be somewhat mental, as he has said that he would develop a can opener for a finger only if he was trapped in a bomb shelter with nothing but canned food, or if he was exceptionally hungry and could not immediately find other sustenance. Powers that he has permanently maintained include:
gills when his head is submerged underwater and webbed appendages when his entire body is submerged,
a slick, wet body and an extra pair of transparent eyelids when exposed to a fiery environment,
night vision from being in the dark,
teleportation from being met with overwhelming force, seemingly without limit,
an elastic, rubbery form which protects him from fall impacts and super-strong opponents and allows him to extend his limbs, absorb impact forces, and expand and contract his body as needed,
and a rocky epidermis to protect against blades, impact, and other direct kinetic stimuli.
This is by no means, however, an exhaustive list. A full breakdown of seen instances of his power can be seen below.
Enhanced Lifespan: Due to the nature of Darwin's ability, it is unlikely that he could be killed by lack of nourishment, environmental hazards, or possibly even aging.
* Darwin has the potential to expand any of these traits due to his mutation.
Abilities:
Enhanced Intelligence: Possibly due to his mutation, Armando had the potential to be among the smartest children in the country by the age of thirteen. His intelligence has only continued to grow with time and he has a near-perfect memory.
Weaknesses:
Darwin's powers do not always activate the way he would prefer. For instance, when faced with overwhelming force, he has stated that he'd prefer to become intangible, but usually he just teleports away from the threat. He has also developed rock-hard skin when falling from a great height instead of the ability to fly.
Equipment
As a member of the Starjammers, Darwin sometimes used various types of firearms / blasters.
Darwin's best friends on the X-Men are Havok, Nightcrawler, and Petra.
Darwin was completely oblivious to Petra's crush on him, and when pointed out to him, he said he did not share her feelings.
Darwin really enjoys Hostess fruit pies.
Darwin likes to tell the kids at the Xavier Institute about his adaptations both as a means to impress them and to serve as a gentle warning to the dangers of the world they face. One of his tried and true methods is to counter his more impressive mutations with his "Darwin Award," or lamest mutation. As of 2023, this was turning into a gelatinous creature akin to a blobfish when shot at underwater.
