Alexi was taken to a NATO medic base during the Libyan civil war. He was eventually granted superhuman abilities by a power serum as well as a shield, and was stationed at the Libyan Russian Embassy.

Vladimir Shostakov sent Alexi many SOS messages. Though he lost his shield, he later got a handmade one. He then fought alongside Ursa Major, Crimson Dynamo, and Black Widow as a member of the Winter Guard.
