Alexander Summers was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the younger brother of Scott Summers. After their parents died in a plane crash, they were raised in an orphanage.
After manifesting his mutant powers, Alex Summers became one of the first X-Men and formed a relationship with Polaris.
He later learned the Corsair of the Starjammers was his father who survived the plane crash.
X-Factor[]
Havok and Polaris joined the government sponsored X-Factor.
Mutant X[]
Havok was transported to a parallel universe where Scott was captured by the Shi'ar along with their parents, leading to him becoming leader of the X-Men.

Scott was the source of Alex's inferiority complex, securities and he felt a need to compare himself to him. He also resented his authoritarian attitude and reputation as a model X-Men.
