Aleksei Sytsevich (Earth-TRN7615)

Aleksei Sytsevich had never been the most intelligent of Spider-Man's foes in his own universe. In fact, he was partially given his powers and the rhino-like suit grafted to his body because the Russian scientists who experimented on him believed that his low-level intellect would make him easier to manipulate into doing their bidding. They'd been wrong, and he turned on them quite quickly, but eventually, after many battles with Spider-Man, Aleksei realized that his own plans were never working out for him, and he started taking on paid work as muscle for other New York crime groups. Over the years he noticed that people paid very little respect to him. Many feared him, but the crime groups and other more infamous villains all just saw Aleksei as a brutish galoot to be used for their own means. With every passing job he became more and more determined to gain the respect that he felt he deserved. The best way he could think of how to do that was to finally be the one to kill Spider-Man. Aleksei managed to get into a brawl with Spider-Man when he was having a very off day. He was sick and exhausted and still recovering from injuries after a battle with Doc Ock and the Rhino did finally manage to snuff out Spidey's lights.

The following day the news was everywhere: the Rhino had killed Spider-Man. Aleksei was ecstatic with himself and was eager to see the praise roll in from the supervillain and criminal community, but it didn't come as he'd hoped. Some did respect him and showed him praise for finally besting Spidey for good, but others claimed it was a lucky fluke, or that he only succeeded because Spidey was injured. Aleksei was shocked and disheartened; even the praise from those who did respect his achievement felt like nothing in the wake of the remaining disrespect he still felt from others. Worse still, over the next few months he saw New York fall further and further into chaos. With no Spider-Man it was open season for criminals, and they were all moving as fast as they could to achieve their own ill-gotten goals while New York tried to find a way to regain order. That just made Rhino's fifteen minutes of fame felt even shorter as those he'd wanted respect from were all distracted with their own missions.

At that point, Aleksei had had enough of trying to gain the respect of his villainous peers and decided instead to try gaining respect from the city he'd spent so long terrorizing. He sought out the same scientists who'd given him his suit in the first place and forced them to upgrade it with spider-like tech and to repaint it more like the now-deceased hero. They told him that it didn't make any sense at all to make him look like some kind of spider-rhino blend, and that they weren't even sure if he could web-swing successfully at his weight, but he didn't care. They did as ordered, and Aleksei set off into the streets to take down the criminals he'd once sought the respect of. He got a lot of laughs from people as they saw this red and silver wrecking ball attempting to swing down city blocks, but when he started successfully besting villains like the Vulture, Shocker, and Scorpion, people did start to take notice.

Slowly, the police in New York gained some footing in the war on villains and crime as more and more villains were put behind bars by Aleksei, but he still wasn't gaining the respect he was after. Some in New York were praising his actions, but most just assumed he was after his own power grab, and others thought it incredibly disrespectful that he'd taken on the appearance of the hero that he'd killed. But strangely enough, Aleksei didn't really care. He saw the city becoming more and more at peace thanks to his actions, and every time he saved someone from dying at the hands of a villain, he felt better and better about himself. Despite not gaining the external respect he was after, for the first time in his adult life, Aleksei found he respected himself for what he was doing. Over the following years, as New York regained composure and he put more and more villains away, he would start gaining some respect from the people of New York, but it had stopped mattering to Aleksei whether he got it or not. The self-respect that he was reinforcing every day by working to help people instead of torment them was enough to finally satisfy the craving for respect he'd been after for so long. No matter how silly or strange people thought the Spider-Rhino was, he was here to stay.
