Bored of his job as an aircraft mechanic, Abner Jenkins designed an armoured plated mechanical suit to become a supervillain. He was defeated by Spider-Man.
He was later recruited into the Thunderbolts, a supervillain assembled by Baron Helmut Zemo to pose as a superhero to gain access to the technology of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. Jenkins became MACH-1. Along with the rest of the thunderbolts, Jenkins chose to become a genuine hero.
