Captain. You're stalling. You know, I've studied you immensely. All of the Avengers, actually. But you intrigued me. Why? Because you have the ability to instill everyone around you with things like hope and confidence. Me? I believe it's false bravado. But regardless of what they're getting or not, it makes them better, it makes them stronger, it makes them fight harder. It somehow allows them to make up the difference needed to win battles. That makes you more dangerous than anyone else here. It's why you're going first.

Synopsis for "The Invincible Ironheart"Edit
Issue 8 starts with the team in the meeting room going through the files that Amadeus cracked, and the Ultron files are proving to be a blessing and and curse.
Francis tells them that clearly they knew way less about Ultron than they thought and Pym agreed. Tony says that the good news is that the information is providing a lot of new things they never knew they needed. He says that it never really crossed his mind that some countries could have actually helped Ultron, but that humans were a stupid bunch, to which Francis and Bruce agreed.
Pym says that as more stuff comes out his favorite is the files in the folder titled Apollo1495, he then questions what in the hell could have gotten Ultron's attention in space. Torunn believes that he probably thought he could conquer it, and that maybe he wanted to know what was up there before he attacked.
Pym agrees that maybe it, but in his mind he's curious for a more definitive answer. Azari asks Amadeus when he thinks he's gonna have all the files and Amadeus tells him soon. And that while some are corrupted beyond saying he can get nearly all of it without any problems. Torunn notices James is quiet and asks if he's alright. He's seems to be in a bit of a different mood than the rest but it was obvious why. James tells them he's fine and that he's just reading. The others know it's more than that because he's reading different content than them. In his hand is Ultron's termination list. He had insisted on reading it as he felt they had wasted enough time already, he believed it could help them.
At first it was jarring. Ultron had a way with words, he was so specific. He would name the person, give them a designation whether that was mutant or whatever other way they got their powers, he'd tell the last known location and then the exact way he "terminated" them. The list had people he had never heard of like Abyss and Aegis. And then there was the bigger ones he could fondly recall hearing about as a little kid like Luke Cage and Iron fist. Certain mutants like the Scarlet Witch and Charles Xavier.
Other's on the list were more ambiguous like the Wolverine, or Beast and even Storm. More names stuck out like Spider-Man and Daredevil. Or Angel and Iceman. But was really important to James was the date. Some were marked before the destruction of NYC. Others were marked the day of, and some as far as up to 10 years after the fact. The ones dated March 12, 1998 really had James attention. Because as far as he knew they would be able to see exactly what had happened and James planned on doing it, Ultron had a video of that day and James needed to see it.
Francis asks James if there was anything crazy he noticed and he tells him that Ultron killed a lot of people. More than he thinks they realized. The scope of everything is insane, a lot of the kills weren't even done by him, just his minions. Most people never even got to the point of fighting Ultron. He also tells Azari that his mother wasn't killed by Ultron. For Azari this is very interesting. If Ultron hadn't killed his mother, and the Legacy Virus hadn't either, than where could she possibly be?
James tells everyone that he wants to watch the video. He tells Tony that he knows he doesn't want to see it but that he doesn't have to, this is just something that he has to see for himself. There are potentially a million things they can analyze from that video. To him it's necessary. Tony argues it's not healthy but all the others want to watch the video too stating there various reasons why, and so Tony concedes saying that he cant stop them. They then confer with Amadeus who loads up the video asking them if they are all ready, they tell him yes and he presses play starting the video.
The Issue then makes it's way to the past in the POV of the Avengers and Ultron. It starts with Wasp telling Captain America that they've underestimated how many robots there actually was. She eventually defeats the robots around her but it takes a ton out of her. For Janet she really wasn't expecting this. She had woken up with the plan of simply taking care of Henry, instead she had to throw on her Wasp suit which was a struggle in itself and start fighting enemies for the first time in over 3 years. She's not Cap or Black Widow she doesn't have a special serum keeping her in great shape. And while she's not entirely out of shape, she's not exactly in fighting shape either. Everything was putting a strain on her and the fight had barely started.
Cap tells Wasp that he understands, and that they do need backup. For him he's doing pretty well despite being out of commission for a while, but in the Wasp's eyes even though he was taking them out a good rate, she could tell he could be doing things faster. Cap asks Wasp what the status on Hank, and she tells him that he's on his way. Cap then asks Nat what's the status on T'Challa's arrival and Nat tells him that he's also on his way. Cap asks again this time about the whereabouts of Clint, Tony, and Bruce.
Natasha tells him that Clint is going to take awhile because he needs to deal with Francis since the other kids left without him and that it might take awhile for him to get there. She explains that they haven't had a personal line with Banner in years and that Tony's got a new suit of armor and was on his way to join the fight. Cap says that it's not great, as right now it's just the three on the line fighting, and as he destroyed a robot it was the last one in the near vicinity so he took the minute they had to analyze everything going on. The Reserve Avengers, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, they were already leading the charge in the middle of New York dealing with the cluster of robots over there. They had no clue about the X-Men and that was the problem with early retirement, they lost contact with everyone except their original core, and even then they had no clue about Bruce or if Thor could lend a hand.
More time passes and Cap realized the three of them were just going to have to do the best they could until the others came and helped. He brought Jan and Nat together and organized a plan to push the robots towards the outskirts of the city. He tells them that S.H.I.E.L.D. should eventually be there to help as well they just had to hold out. Time is gone and the three are back to fighting again. Wasp is doing her best using her size to her advantage, while Cap and Black Widow worked in tandem. They were doing well, but the passage of time began to wear down a bit on the heroes. Widow specifically threw her knife at robot who this time caught and threw it back even faster, while this happens Jan is also being swarmed so Cap makes a decision. He throws his shield at the robots attacking Janet, and then Cap dives in the way and takes the hit for Widow and gets stabbed in the back.
While this goes on Wasp continues to get swarmed, while Cap and Widows seemed to be down for the count. She was seconds away from getting vaporized before Tony entered the fray whizzing her into the air away from the action. She's happy but worried for Steve and Nat who are still at ground level, but Tony says it's all good, and in that moment Hank in his Giant-Man form has also shown up. Tony lets Wasp go and help Hank crush robots while Tony helps out Widow who pulls out the knife from Cap's back and let's Tony spray some sort of healing agent on it. While this happens Nat questions Tony on what's going on, and he says he doesn't know, he thought they purged Ultron years ago, and he doesn't know how he created an army without him or S.H.I.E.L.D. knowing.
With Hank and Tony added to the fight even with Cap's injury it's like a second wind for the Avengers and Cap believes they can make a push for Ultron they know T'Challa will be there soon so they are confident and start tearing through Ultron's defenses. They never really struggle now that they have there numbers and make good time, getting to Ultron. The robot of the hour was simply standing in the middle of the street looking quite bored with all the destruction going around him.
Cap speaks first, telling Ultron he needs to stop the madness, as he is tearing the country apart. And Ultron tells him that's what he intended. Wasp asks him what happened to saving the world and world peace, and Ultron simply dismisses the idea. Insisting this was the logical choice, the human race needed a leader. The back and forth continues with Hank yelling at him as well, but it's obvious his stance is not changing. Cap says they can't let him do this and they all prepared to fight. The first move was made by T'Challa who flew over with the Quinjet hitting Ultron with bullets that didn't affect him at all but the distraction was good enough for the Avengers to attack.
Cap and Black Widow led the charge on the ground running towards Ultron as fast as their enhanced bodies could muster. Wasp shrunk and began to fly through the air and Iron Man flew on the opposite side of her ready to hit Ultron with everything he had while Giant-Man stayed back for a little while taking his time to grow to the proper size. Black Panther was exiting the Quinjet so every Avenger they knew who was available was there. Things were almost hopeful. Almost. Captain America threw his shield at blazing speeds the same time Tony sent a repulsor blast at Ultron. Wasp was prepping a sneak attack and Black Widow had her knife at the ready. It was 5 v 1 they seemed to be at the advantage.
Just as fast as Captain America had sent his shield hurtling towards Ultron he had smacked it back with just as much force, the shield went careening to the super soldier and hit him in the face sending him down the ground, blood already pouring from his head. Iron Man’s repulsor was overpowered by Ultron’s own blast and he narrowly avoided getting hit, Black Widow lunged towards Ultron with anger in her eyes and avoided getting hit by him and slammed the vibranium knife into his chest. Even though the knife was made of vibranium the force used to hit Ultron was not nearly enough, it barely scratched his chest before Ultron simply grabbed Black Widow's arm and threw her away towards a building, something that could undoubtedly kill her.
Wasp thought she was in the clear but Ultron quickly locked onto her size despite being so small and began shooting at her rapidly, she barely dodged the first round of blasts and when Ultron began the second round of blasts she knew she was toast. If it weren't for Giant-Man slamming his foot on Ultron, Wasp would be dead. Despite being beat in a couple moves by Ultron the heroes got right back up and went to fight again. Cap, Black Widow, and Iron Man led the charge and threw around the now cracked shield and managed to make Ultron hurt.
The back and forth was like this for awhile, until Ultron began to take things more seriously and eventually everyone but Captain America was down for the count. Ultron and Cap talk. Ultron tells him why Cap has to be the one to go first because he makes everyone around him better, and after that the two begin to fight. Using the slivers of his cracked shield Cap manages to stab Ultron through the eye, and cut off his hand but it's not enough. Ultron overpowers him, and begins to punch him over and over and over. Until he's near his last breath. With his last words Cap tells Tony to go and that he knows what needs to happen before Ultron slams him on the ground finally killing him, and after that all hell breaks loose.
Widow attacks Ultron, and Ultron kills her with her own knife, stabbing her through the heart. Iron Man tries to help, but is thrown back to the Quinjet by Ultron. Ultron then hunts out Giant-Man and Wasp and lets out a energy beam from his mouth killing them both in quick succession. Next was T'Challa who attempted a sneak attack and was caught by neck. Ultron asks him if he really thought that would work before snapping his neck easily.
Ultron hears the sound of the Quinjet next, and watches as Tony escapes off somewhere. He's ready to go chase him, when's he interrupted by Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Spider-Man who are in shock as they see the state of the Avengers. They talk with the robot for a bit before they jump into a fight with him. Daredevil and Spider-Man leave to help people stay clear of the fight zone, leaving Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist on there own.
They are doing decently, of course until Ultron stops messing around killing Iron Fist with a straight hand through his chest. With Luke Cage, he forces the man to swallow a pill which renders him at first incapable of moving. Jessica is worried, and in that split second Ultron uses that time to kill her, shoving his hand straight through heart in the most grotesque way possible. Luke watches this happen before collapsing himself dying of whatever poison Ultron gave the man. Spider-Man and Daredevil come back and are shocked at what they see. They talk more with Ultron before they begin to fight, of course once again Ultron isn't trying, but this time he suddenly punched Daredevil into a building before flying up into the sky.
Spider-Man follows him up there by scaling a building and tells him he can't just leave, and Ultron tells him that he thought he would be done by now, and that it was time. Spider-Man asks Time for what? And Ultron tells him a rebirth, and suddenly a huge explosion hit that rocked the building he was on. And that was just one of them, the explosions kept on coming, and as a result of this the feed cut in and out a few times, as you could see Spider-Man swinging through the destruction of New York City. Everything was gone. The video cut again finally to a beat up looking Spider-Man, Ultron looked very damaged but in the end it was clear who had won between the Spider and the robot, the video ended with Ultron throwing a furious fist at Spider-Man.
Francis is the first to speak up and all he could say was that, that was rough. Torunn immediately apologizes to Tony saying that he's shouldn't have had to see that and that it was awful which Tony kind of just shrugs off. Pym says it's weird as this video is the longest he can ever remember seeing his parents. In a way he's proud of them for fighting against that threat but he's also not sure if he needed to see that. It was unsettling. Azari admits that it was very graphic but he can see the usefulness in watching the video, and James agrees.
The Super Soldier explains that they knew what they were getting into. Watching the video was no easy task for anyone, but it is helping there future. He tells them that Ultron's termination list is very much incomplete. He didn't get to everyone. And that video confirms it. He questions how many people survived the bombing like Spider-Man but never ran into Ultron? Or staying in the cracks of a city like the Scavengers had? Tony tells him it's impossible to know that, and James says it is, but that's a good thing.
He tells them that a month ago they were chasing leads looking for the Wolverine. Know they knew that there were X-Men in Genosha. Tons of them. The Masters of Evil were still kicking, and they were finding out that they were not the last supers on the planet. He says that in the long run this is exactly what they needed. It's a chance to find more people like them which they all knew they needed. Torunn agreed, but also questioned what kind of people are out there. And she saying that if they are hiding then they might want to stay hidden like the X-Men. James tells them that he has faith the X-Men were going to help them. Whether that was tomorrow or in a year's time it was going to happen, they wouldn't stay hidden forever.
Francis questions whether James is still running those missions, and James says he will and that he's already got one in South America and possibly Europe planned. They could help people out and then of course use the list to determine where some heroes might be. Riri suddenly inserts herself into the conversation saying that she wants to go, and Tony immediately tells her no. James tells Riri that he appreciates her wanting to help but without a way to protect herself she's a liability in the field- Riri cuts James off by instantly transforming into Ironheart, and leaving the entire room in shock. Tony believes that it's probably the most high tech piece of armor in the world, and it's hard to believe a 15 year old made it. The team is very impressed and they all agree that Amadeus and Riri are the best things to happen to the team in a long time. Yet still Tony is hesitant. They go back and forth but eventually it's Azari, James, Francis and Vision who explains things and that eventually leads Tony to agree. They end the meeting saying that they will meet again in a few hours to watch the UN Meeting go down.
The scene switches to Genosha and the Blue and Gold Teams are training. It's a 2v2 match Jessica and Jimmy vs Talia and Lily-Rose whilst everyone else watches on the sidelines. Jessica is horsing around a little, but despite that the Blue team edge out the win anyways. Talia ends the training sessions as she's floored by Jimmy, saying that's enough training for the day. Jimmy apologizes, and Talia says it's fine and that fighting enhanced people is always bound to leave some bruises. Michael jumps in from the sidelines and begins to tell everyone dramatically that it sucks that they can't hurt anyone who actually deserves it, before noting there is people, the X-Men just don't give a damn.
Olivia begs Michael to stop saying that she really can't deal with his rambling today. She says that they are going to get enough of it tonight, and she doesn't need to hear him ramble hours before the Un Broadcast. This leads Michael to wonder if he rambles to which everyone agrees he does, though his teammates comfort him telling him that they don't find it annoying. The conversation eventually gets back on track and they talk about how they believe the meeting will go. Jane says she's not sure and that she's simply choosing to believe that people are smarter than they thought and would make the right decision regarding the saviors of the planet. Jimmy says he's not worried, he's sure they are going to make the right decision. Rather it was everything that was going to happen after that was important. He believed the X-Men needed to stop wasting time and make a decision, and do the obvious thing.
Talia agrees the X-Men need to do the right thing, but that they need more patience. They are going to make the decision they just need more time. Jane says that who know how much time the Avengers had left. Whoever was fighting them, was attacking the Avengers on every front. Olivia says she agrees, and that the entirety of the Gold Team does, but they once again need patience. Jane "agrees" but it's obvious to anyone with eyes she's only saying that for their sake. Talia asks Jimmy if they are planning on doing anything irresponsible, but Jimmy insists they aren't. However when the Gold Team leave, the Blue Team share a few rather devious looks indicating that there true intentions had not been revealed.
Back with the Avengers they sit and watch the UN meeting and in the end it's a success, not just for the Avengers, but for Valerie as well. It starts with a few outspoken people insisting that the Avengers were too young to continue to be left unchecked. However Valerie and a couple of Representatives from other countries counteract this with facts and stories continually showing the maturity of the Avengers. It seems the the meeting as been turned on the heads of the Masters of Evil. And in the end the Avengers are favored with 84% meaning that they do not have to move under control of the UN and are free to continue doing as they please. This meeting showed the Avengers that they had more friends on the outside than they may have thought, and ends the issue.
NotesEdit
This Issue of A New Legacy was the first to announce the other string of miniseries that were going to become the staple of the A New Legacy Universe. The Miniseries would be between 4-12 issues no more and no less. They would tell specific stories of certain characters like James Rogers, or Torunn Thorsdottir in their element through the years. The stories are meant to be just as important as A New Legacy but shorter so writer DarKnight77 would not suffer from burnout by doing two ongoing series at a time. Rather having set series with certain issues would allow him to tell the stories he wanted, continue to push out good content, and expand the story of the budding universe. As it was only a teaser there isn't much information on the series themselves, but some names for the works were dropped like James Rogers: Super Spy, Torunn Protector of the Nine Realms, Astonishing X-Men, and Azari Prince of Wakanda.
Writer Capt10America is quoted as saying this on the expansion of the Universe "After Years 1-2 you'll see that the A New Legacy title is like an Avengers title or any other team book. While it's valuable it's not the right way to tell the entire story of a new Universe. As of right now it only makes sense that we start from here, but this was always meant to be the the branching off point for something bigger than just James, Torunn, Azari, Pym, and Francis. Think of this book like the Ultimates for Earth-1610. It's the beginning for many characters but that's just it. A beginning. I can't wait for you all to see what we have in store here!"
There hasn't been any specific branding for the expansion of the Universe as they don't consider it a reboot or restart, just the expected linear development of the world. Through the responses in their interviews it can also be confirmed that the A New Legacy Universe will not work on a sliding timescale. It's believed that a timeline of things that have happened from the beginning of this universe until Year One is in development to be released.
